You Ain't So Much a Much / Hound Dog

A 2 track funk single (1m 21s) — released December 6th 2010 on Jukebox Jam Series

Two superb early 50s R&B femme vocal cuts back to back! "Such a Much" is a real killer blues shouter with Mama Thornton-esque vocals from New Orleans resident Blanche Thomas. Truth be told, the song owes a large debt to Mama's "Hound Dog", but the arrangement and musicianship of Dave Bartholomew and his backing band raise the bar for any subsequent cover versions and answer records. Throw on this little rabble-rouser and the floor will rock, guaranteed. On the flip, Little Esther's quick-fire cover of Mama Thornton's signature song, adding an emphasized rumba shuffle to the usual rolling rhythm, one of the more unique interpretations of this oft-covered standard, and definitely one of the wildest. The label artwork references the Peacock label, which originally issued "Hound Dog" for Thornton. We have named it "Pelican" as that was the local New Orleans club where Blanche Thomas would regularly perform, some 50, 60 years ago. !!! Limited Run - Only 500 copies pressed !!!
